Control Kids Internet Access BETA
As a geek and an internet addict myself, I tried my best to delay exposing my kids to the World Wild Web for as long as possible.
I knew this was only a temporary band-aid, but I wanted to inspire them to develop offline hobbies and skills.
My approach worked well, and they developed interests in many arts and crafts—which has been amazing to see.
Sadly, though, it was obvious from the beginning that isolating them from technology was not the solution. Slowly but surely, they started to gain access to devices over the years.
Since then, I’ve faced a new challenge: How do I encourage them to evenly balance their online and offline activities?
Turns out there is no easy way. They, just like me (and likely, just like you), are unable to stop. Once they go online, not even an earthquake can move them.
For this reason, I created a tool that allows parents to easily enable and disable kids’ internet access: the DareScouts parents’ dashboard.
The controls are simple. You assign owners of the devices you have on your local network, and then you can add rules to grant internet access at specific times. You can also enable or disable access manually from the parents’ dashboard at any time.
But that’s not all :)
I want DareScouts to be a tool that helps me reward good habits and drive motivation, and with this in mind, I created options to control internet access based on the completion of tasks or chores.
Currently, this feature is being tested by close friends and their families, but if you are a geek like me and are not afraid of configuring a Raspberry Pi, send me a message and I would be happy to bring you on as a beta tester.
